Abstrakt

The aim of this article is to present and discuss the diplomacy of the Holy See during the pontifcate of Pope John Paul II in 1978-2005. The author tries to present situations that should be looked at in the context of the accelerating processes of decolonization and human rights policy. They defne the way in which the ideas preached by the Bishop of Rome began to take the form of universal beliefs and form international consensus and the politics of states. The events in which the movement for decolonization and human rights policy took part, whose keynote was a reflection on the amount of destruction and the enormity of chaos after World War II, had a real impact on the position taken by the Catholic Church, due to the fact that the Church experienced the same history. The direction of the Holy See, upholding the Christian tradition, is evolving towards a greater commitment to peaceful coexistence and common action wherever necessary and possible. The Pope supports the building, consolidation and continuous improvement of a new international order that is consistent with the values of Catholic teaching, i.e. human dignity, human rights and solidarity among all states and peoples. John Paul II undoubtedly contributed to modern history and many peaceful solutions o conflicts. The Pope was sensitive to human problems and suffering. Peace in the teaching of John Paul II has a transcendent value, but also an earthly value. It is „a gift of God entrusted to men. Maintaining order among nations is also one of the key factors in building world peace.
